Yes, it is Playlist Wednesday. However, the program I normally use to compose my playlists is being a jerk. This doesn't mean I'm leaving you high and dry. I always have a backup plan. We're still going to discuss music, and once again I would appreciate your feedback in making me feel less crazy.
When it comes to songs, I am a lyrics person. It drives me a little nuts when I can't understand what a singer is saying, and it sways my opinion of them. There are notable exceptions when I know I don't understand what an artist is saying, but I trust them and don't care. Vampire Weekend, is a perfect example of this. The first time I heard A-Punk, I knew it was love. I also knew I had no clue what this guy was saying. A quick search on Google helped me out with the lyrics, but I have to do this with every song for them.
A few weeks ago, I got their new album and was listing to 'Horchata.' Midway through the song, I started to crack up. As I listened I swore I head Mr. Koenig sing, "You understood, so you shouldn't have farted." Amanda, you're being a child. There is no way he's saying that. I listened over and over, and for the life of me it sounded like he was saying farted. Google to the rescue again and, big surprise, I was wrong. The actual lyric is, "You understood, so you shouldn't have fought it."
Please listen and judge for yourself. He says it a few times in the song. The first is at 1:51, and it's even clearer at 3:05. Tell me you hear it too. Even if you don't, humor me?
