Friday Link Party

Happy Friday! It was sort of a short week for me, short but packed. I still have stories to share from An Event Apart. I've got some links for you as well and and my costume from Saturday's Great Urban Race. It's safe to say I don't take myself too seriously. Really though, how many opportunities do you really have to run around your city it a tutu?  Have an awesome weekend and for the second week in a row I'll suggest that you wear a tutu at some point. Things are just more fun that way.

Friday Night Link Party

This Friday post is coming a little late in the day, but better late than never. Today was a doozy, but I'm gearing up for an amazing weekend. Tomorrow I'm participating in The Great Urban Race. Say what? It's a scavenger hunt/race throughout Chicago. My partner and I get a series of twelve clues to complete. We have to complete different challenges a long the way, and did I mention costumes are mandatory? Tutus were purchased, my friends! TUTUS.

You might not hear from me till Wednesday. I'll be attending An Event Apart Conference in Minneapolis. I'm pumped to be submerged in design and web education for two days. Hopefully I'll come back oozing inspiration and knowledge that I'll of course share with all of you.

Have an awesome weekend, stay cool, wear a tutu and enjoy my weekly recap of Internet findings.

Mini Playlist Thursday: The Black Keys

I'm sort of obsessing over The Black Keys album Brothers right now. If you have no idea who The Black Keys are, just give me three songs off their new album to try and convince you why you should. Just three songs.

Illustrated Recipes

Mmm, illustrations! This is a simple and well executed concept from Claudia Pearson. It makes me want all of my recipes to look this way. Do you think I could commission her to convert my 3x5  recipe cards?  Not only do these sound pretty tasty (grilled peaches with ice cream!), I am digging the illustration style. Check out that blender on the Sour Cherry print, gorgeous. Check out Claudia's etsy shop to purchase prints and her blog for full recipes.

Typography Mobile

This is one more reason to love Veer.com. Behold, a typography mobile! What are the changes I can get one of these in my office?

Design Inspiration Monday

The good people at National Geographic posted a gallery of Vintage U.S. Parks Posters. My love for travel and vintage posters has me nerding out on several levels over these. Take a look, get some inspiration and imagine yourself in a far off place on vacation.

Cabazon Dinosaurs

One of my faovite movie's as a kid was Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I could never get enough of the scene with the giant dinosaurs in it. Little did I know while planning my Palm Springs vacation I'd get to experience them first hand.

I'm a sucker for tourist traps. The cheesier, the better. If you are too and you happen to be in the Palm Springs area, you should check out the Cabazon Dinosaurs. These babies have the honor of being the World's Biggest Dinosaurs. They also make for some amazing photo ops with your friends. Next to the two big dinos you'll find a Robotic Dinosaur mini park. For a few dollars admission you can get your fill of animatronic beasts and take even more ridiculous photos. You can even crawl into the giant Mr. Rex and take pictures inside his mouth. Let me tell you, when I say this place is cheesy, I mean it. A walk though the mini park and you'll see giant frogs, lions and maybe even a knight. This isn't about history or class. It's about fun.

12 July 2010

For three consecutive days the girls and I ate breakfast at Norma's in Palm Springs at The Parker Hotel. It was swanky, it was delicious, it was wonderful. On day one we had "new in town" written all over our faces. We asked to eat outside. It was 108 degrees outside, and we sat in the sun. Our silverware was so hot we couldn't even touch it. Yeah, that was our fault. After moving to the shade we finished our food and never looked back.

I don't know if I loved the decor or the food more. In three days we had our fill of pancakes, waffles and my favorite the Wa-Zaa- a giant waffle filled and topped with fruit and a crackled layer of crème brûlée! If you're in Palm Springs, I highly recommenced a visit. Get the Wa-Zaa and the french press coffee. Just due yourself a favor and sit either inside or in the shade.

Green Chicago Eats

Well hello there. I'm back and so relaxed. Palm Springs and LA were just what I needed. I've got a ton of stories and photos that I'll be sharing with you all very soon. For now, I've got something to share with my fellow Chicagoans. Green LA girl posted some great eco-friendly eats in Chicago. I've been to a few of these and can attest to their deliciousness. Feast away, my friends.

I'm breaking my own hiatus rules, but I came across this and had to share. Have you seen Toyota's Swagger Wagon commercials? Amazing.
